social-distance friendly boat charters & retreats.
In May 2020, I participated in the #KissmyPortfolio design challenge, hosted by Michelle Wintersteen, owner of MKW Creative Co. This three-week case study consisted of defining brand identity, building logo presentations & supporting graphics, and presenting brand mockups.
WEEK ONE: DEFINE
I. Understanding the Client + Business
Kayla is a 32 year old female who is starting her own business after dropping out of her corporate job in marketing. She loves travel and adventure and grew up on the water learning to sail with her parents. After losing her job during COVID-19, she's decided to start her own business offering social-distancing friendly charters and sailing retreats along the Southern California Coastline.
She wants to bring a more vibrant energy to the otherwise old-man's club of sailing.
Chroma Charters believes that the world is going to be very different post-COVID. By offering sailing charters, Chroma Charters aims to inspire, educate, and appreciate the beauty of Southern California marine life in a way that keeps everyone safe.
Chroma Charters is a female-founded and female-run sailing charter company leading private tours for millennials and their families. They believe in the beauty of nature, showcasing the ocean's 'chromas' or colors during sunset rides and overnight retreats.
Chroma Charters partners with a different Ocean Conservation nonprofit each quarter to help protect local habitats for Marine Life.
II. Moodboard & Color Palette
My aim for the brand moodboard is to encompass a millennial woman at a more stable stage in her life and focuses on searching for her own self purpose. I experimented with the "retreat" side of Kayla's services and curated photos that convey the calm & moody vibe of the brand.
